Kamron Karington

Monty Lockyear

monty.lockyear3Monty Lockyear is the Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Empower Marketing Group, a software company that specializes in marketing systems for restaurants and retailers.  He also serves as President of Hood Products LLC, an online marketer of restaurant hood exhaust supplies and hood cleaning products.

Monty started his business career as a teenager when he crafted his first business plan and purchased a 90 unit self-storage facility.  He combined that with a small campus clothing business to help pay his way through college. After graduating, he spent 11 years in the foodservice industry starting as a distributor sales rep and quickly climbed the ranks through sales, marketing and management. By the age of 29, he was the Director of Sales and Marketing for one of the country’s largest food distributors.  His ability to quickly turn-around struggling territories and sales teams earned him national recognition and many awards along the way.

He was also a pioneer in the area of distributor value-added service programs.  He developed one of the first marketing programs offering sales building and business development services through a network of 3rd party service providers. Monty was later recruited to build similar marketing programs for other top food distributors.

Monty served as the Chief Marketing Officer for a merchant services and payment technology company before launching Empower Marketing Group.  Today, he remains focused on marketing innovation and managing the day-to-day operations of his two companies.

Dave Ostrander

big-dave-200pxFor 25 years, he owned and operated Big Dave’s Pizza & Subs in Oscoda, Michigan, and as an independent operator, he took on some of the country’s largest pizza chains – and defeated or dominated them.  His stories of about the highs and lows of owning his own business are based on real-world experience only someone who’s served “in the trenches” understands.

Two years after Big Dave’s was ranked the 25th busiest pizzeria in the USA, he started his consulting, speaking and training career in 1990.  Dave is a regular columnist in Pizza Today magazine. Big Dave also developed FoodCost Pro, the only software program specifically designed for pizza / Italian restaurants. Big Dave logs over 80,000 miles a year delivering consulting, staff and management training as well as speaking on relative topics relating to the food service industry.

David Scott Peters

david-scott-peters-200pxDavid Scott Peters founded Smile Button Enterprises, LLC in 2003 to train and inspire restaurant owners and managers on the appropriate skill sets and “SMART Systems” they need to realize their dreams in the competitive restaurant business. SMART Systems — Simple, Measurable, Applicable, Repeatable and Trainable — is a term Peters coined, having refined dozens of systems over the years, devoting his professional life to the specialized issues facing franchise owners.

Peters’ expertise and experience was gained through several years of working in restaurant and franchise operations. Most recently he served at the executive level for Famous Sam’s, Inc., a restaurant/sports bar chain with system-wide annual revenues in excess of $30 million. As chief operating officer (COO), he was credited with skillfully managing the turnaround for the chain, taking it from near-bankruptcy and turning it into a thriving enterprise, ultimately resulting in the company’s profitable sale.

Peters understands the needs of the independent restaurant owner. He grew up in his family’s successful restaurant and catering business in Linwood, N.J. Today, through Smile Button Enterprises, Peters teaches independent restaurant professionals the same business practices that make franchise operations so strong — staff training, solid financial controls and SMART systems.
